I know this is an old Thread, but when I saw it I couldn't resist not to reply.

Actually, there is a Better Web Directory Script - qlWebDS. Much more sophisticated and extremely easy to program, use and develop new templates. Has Free, Premium and Pro versions.
Premium and Pro have all the mods built in so no need to spend days by adding them seperately.

Free version has more features than any other free directory script I have seen. See for yourself: qlWebDS Directory Software.

Don't get me wrong. I use both phpLD and qlWebDS on my directories and actually love them both. But qlWebDS - just a bit more.

PHPLD is good in many different aspects. But in some, you know. Anyways, no one can be perfect so yes, it's the best so far.

But i know one script that is coming out soon. A script from the man who actually was a big part of PHPLD's birth itself. I think it will leave behind PHPLD by big margin!
